This application allows you to experiment with the genetic code. When you click the blue "Translate" button, the sequence of RNA bases shown in the upper text box will be translated into a protein sequence (one letter symbols only). Remember, translation begins with the first AUG codon. If there is none, the RNA sequence will not be translated.
You can edit the sequence of RNA. See what happens when you substitute one base for another, or add or subtract bases. The red "Reset" button sets the RNA sequence back to what it was when the page was first loaded.
Note: The symbol "*" means that the virtual ribosome has encountered a STOP codon. A "#" means that the ribosome did not recognize a codon (this will happen, for example, if there are spaces in the RNA , or if you have inadvertently entered a T instead of a U.)
